Two changes were made from Tuesday night’s 2 – 1 win at Chippenham Town, with Luke Skinner and Will Dawes dropping to the bench in favour of Luke Coulson and Sam Pearson.

An early opportunity for the Seagulls was narrowly cut out by a Maidenhead defender when James Dodd looked to profit from a low Michael Smith cut-back, before James Waite tested Jordi Van Stappershoef with a low effort at his near post following a Pearson flick-on. Pearson then had an opportunity when racing onto a Coulson pass, however he miscued his shot and the visitors eventually conceded a corner.

Waite volleyed over from a corner when Coulson’s delivery was headed back out in his direction 18 yards out, before the visitors had a goal ruled out when Asher Yearwood turned home a goalbound Josh Umerah shot on the line following Liam Dulson’s low cross. Umerah then sliced an effort wide of the target from 18 yards after turning Pope inside the Weston half.

Britton had the first opportunity in the second period when bringing down a long ball from skipper Emlyn Lewis, shrugging off two defenders and seeing a low effort held by Van Stappershoef. Dulson then saw his 25-yard effort for the visitors held by Harris, in what was their first real shot on target of the match.

Substitute Skinner looked to create going forward, his curling shot from 18 yards deflected wide of the target following a swift counter-attack. The teenage forward then fired over on the stretch when Van Stappershoef failed to punch clear a Coulson corner in a crowded six-yard area.

The Bristol City loanee was to have the final say though when he got his foot to a Jacob Jagger Cane header forward, racing past his man onto the loose ball to get a clean shot on goal. With The Optima expectantly holding it’s breath, the striker wrapped his finish into the top corner to cap off a memorable afternoon as the Seagulls make it back-to-back wins.

We now return to action in less than 24 hours, when we make the trip to Farnborough on Bank Holiday Monday.
