Ahead of the game in North London, manager Scott Bartlett made two changes to his starting line-up from the side that started the 3-0 win over Maidstone United. Will Dawes and Luke Skinner came in for Jacob Jagger Cane and Dan Martin.

Enfield would have been boosted by their first win of the season last Tuesday, and they started the game positively. The hosts had the first chance of the two sides to score when Ollie Knight pulled the ball back for Sam Youngs, but he fired just over.

Youngs went close again with an acrobatic effort before an inviting ball in from the left from Nino Adom-Malachi found Youngs but he side-footed over.

The busy Knight then had a glorious chance to put The Towners into the lead when the ball fell kindly to him in the six-yard box, but his goalbound effort was brilliantly saved by Max Harris.

Enfield had enjoyed the better of the first-half, but Weston responded with efforts from Louis Britton and Luke Skinner, but home shotstopper Rhys Forster was well placed each time to deny the visitors.

HALF-TIME: Enfield Town 0-0 Weston-super-Mare AFC

The Seagulls had been quiet in the first half, but the away side had the first half-chance after the interval as Sam Avery hooked James Waite’s corner goalwards, but it was just wide of the target.

Like Enfield in the first-half, Weston were enjoying the better of the play after the interval, although neither side were able to create anything of note in terms of clear chances. Both sides were defending well in the noticeable wind, which seemed to have an effect on the proceedings in North London.

As the game looked like it was destined for stalemate, The Seagulls attacked again, and the substitutes played their part in the decisive goal. Luke Coulson played the ball out to Michael Smith on the right flank, and his ball towards the penalty spot was swept home by Sam Pearson past the dive of Forster to break the deadlock with little time to spare.

The home side tried to rally but they never looked like breaching the excellent Seagulls’ backlime and so it proved as they earned their sixth straight win.

As for the winning goal, it was Smith’s fifth assist of the season on a day that Harris earned his 50th clean sheet for the club, and the fifth shut-out in seven games.
