Three changes were made from Tuesday’s 5 – 1 win against Slough Town, with Michael Smith, Callum Wood and Jake Hicks all coming in to replace Emlyn Lewis, Jacob Jagger Cane & Louis Britton. James Dodd and Will Dawes were named on the bench following injury.
Sam Pearson almost found himself through on goal six minutes in, but a home defender was just able to clear the ball away as the forward looked to get a shot away following a Smith pass. Pearson then saw an audacious effort from 35 yards drift wide of the target when looking to catch Tonbridge keeper Jacob Adams, before Pearson had penalty appeals turned away as he took a tumble when looking to attack a Smith cross.
Toby Omole then had a chance for the hosts right before half-time, bundling his way into the area and seeing his toe-poke smothered by the onrushing Max Harris.
Half-Time: Tonbridge Angels 0 – 0 Weston-super-Mare AFC
The Seagulls started the second half brightly, Luke Coulson curling a 25-yard attempt into the hands of Adams before half-time substitute Dodd rolled a shot into the shot-stopper’s arms from a similar distance. Pearson then had the best opportunity of the game so far when he got put through on goal and from an angle, his attempt was parried away by Adams.
Pearson then went narrowly close again, this time his attempt from an angle being pushed onto the post by Adams and bouncing away from goal. The Weston No.11 had another penalty appeal turned away as he looked to get on the end of a low delivery, before Pearson’s low cross narrowly found Dan Martin making a run towards the near post.
Coulson saw a 25-yard free-kick narrowly clear the bar via a deflection, before his corner narrowly evaded everyone inside the six-yard box. With the final effort of the game, Coulson curled a free-kick over the bar from a favourable 25-yard position.
The Seagulls now turn their attentions to a clear week, preparing for next Saturday’s match against Aldershot Town at home in the Emirates FA Cup First Round Proper.
