Match Report written by Rob Hammett
In Weston’s final home game of a memorable 2024/25 season, The Seagulls were defeated by two goals to nil against Truro City.
Following Good Friday’s game at Chippenham Town, one change was made to the starting line-up as Josh Seberry came in for Louis Britton.
Visiting goalkeeper Dan Lavercombe was busy throughout, and made his first save early in the game as he made a solid stop from Reuben Reid.
Shortly after, Reid found the back of the net with an emphatic finish from James Dodd’s pass, but the linesman raised his flag to signal for offside.
The Seagulls were playing well and were close again when, from Luke Coulson’s corner, the ball made its way to Josh Seberry but his effort hit the base of the post with Lavercombe beaten.
Good link-up play between Keiran Thomas and Coulson on the right saw the latter cross for Reid, but he headed just wide from twelve yards.
Just before the interval, Truro had their best opportunity of the half when substitute Dominic Johnson-Fisher got in behind The Seagulls’ back line, but his low effort was pushed out by Max Harris.
HALF-TIME: Weston-super-Mare AFC 0-0 Truro City
At the start of the second-half, Weston kept up the pressure but Truro put bodies on the line and were always alert to danger, demonstrating why they have the second-best defensive record in the league.
The visiting Tinners were also desperate for the three points and they took the lead in the 55th minute. Lavercombe’s long punt forward proved difficult to deal with, and the ball ended up with Tyler Harvey lifting the ball home over Harris to give Truro the advantage.
Billy Palfrey was one of many bookings as he fouled Dylan Kadji. From the free-kick, Coulson played the ball into the penalty area, and Sam Avery’s effort was just inches over the crossbar.
Weston kept pouring forward in search of an equaliser, but the dogged defending of Truro was proving hard to breach.
The Seagulls did come close, however, when, following another corner, the ball made its way to Reid but Lavercombe was equal to the effort as he got down low to make a good save.
Sadly for Weston, Truro doubled their lead seven minutes into twelve minutes of injury-time.
Truro broke and Johnson-Fisher was brought down in the box. The referee waved play on, but when Harvey’s shot hit the post, the match official brought the play back and pointed to the penalty spot.
Harvey stepped up and sent Harris the wrong way, not the first time he has scored a brace against Weston on an Easter Monday.
The Seagulls now head to Eastbourne Borough for their final Vanarama National League South game of the season on Saturday.
