Paul is one of the longest-serving chairmen in English football, having guided the club through nearly four decades of progress and transformation.

He steered the club away from near bankruptcy in August 1986 and turned the club around to be one of the most stable and secure clubs in non-league football.

During his time as Chairman, he has guided the club through three promotions, two of which were title winning campaigns.

The Club is a huge part of the local community and seeing the crowds grow over this time from a little over 100 back at Woodspring Park to over 1100 at the Optima Stadium means a lot to everyone involved.

The Bliss family’s dedication to Weston-super-Mare AFC remains as strong as ever, with Paul’s son, Oli Bliss, appointed as the club’s new Chairman. Oli has served on the club’s board since 2007 and has been Managing Director for over 10 years.

Speaking about the transition, Paul said:

“I have had many great times over the years as Chairman of Weston-super-Mare AFC.

“I have been lucky enough to have a very strong board at all times – I have to mention Dennis who has been my Vice Chairman for all of these years, who is a great support.

“I felt that now was the right time for me to step back to an honorary role and let Oliver step up to be the Clubs new Chairman.

“I am not around as much as I used to be, so now is the time to hand over to the next generation”

New Chairman Oli Bliss added:

“I would like to thank my Dad for the voluntary service he has given to Weston-super-Mare AFC.

“Not only has he made very significant financial contributions over the 39 years, but he has also offered his time and knowledge. There are not many clubs in the country that are fortunate enough to be in a solid financial position and own their site.

“Whilst I am very privileged to be appointed the Chairman of Weston-super-Mare AFC, not much will change for me as we all continue to push the club forward.”

As part of this transition, some other changes to roles on the club’s board have also been made. These adjustments are aimed at strengthening the club’s structure and supporting its long-term ambitions. Further details on these appointments will be announced in due course.
