Match Report by Sid Clarke – Sweet
Weston took a trip over the border into Devon, where they enjoyed a 2-1 win over Tiverton.
There were six changes from Tuesday’s starting eleven, with Finlay Croft, Reuben Reid, James Waite, Luke Coulson, Emlyn Lewis & Ollie Chamberlain all coming into the side.
Weston started brightly when Ollie Chamberlain put Nick McCootie through but his shot clipped off the onrushing Joel Manning and out for a corner.
Just a minute later, Weston were ahead. A low ball from Luke Coulson was fizzed in from the left towards the edge of the six-yard box where James Dodd’s expert first-time shot was slotted home.
Tiverton levelled after Sam Avery made a perfect sliding tackle but the ball landed at Jay Murray’s feet, who buried his shot past Finlay Croft into the bottom corner from more than 20 yards out.
Weston were controlling possession and James Waite got down the left putting a teasing ball along the floor into the area but somehow evaded everyone in yellow before a long range shot from Coulson stung the hands of Manning!
HALF-TIME: Tiverton Town 1-1 Weston-super-Mare AFC
The flow of the game during the second half was interrupted, with several substitutions from both sides.
A great ball into the box from the left spun off a Tiverton player into Waite who couldn’t quite control the ball and Manning collected.
Coulson’s corner was met by a flying Keiran Thomas, whose header only just glided over the bar!
Morgan Lewis broke down the left and put the ball on a plate for 16-year-old Ryan Crawford who slotted home with a first-time finish, winning the game for Weston.
Another strong performance by the Seagulls as they look ahead to Tuesday’s home game against Bristol City U21s.
