Three changes were made from Tuesday’s 3 – 0 win at home to Taunton Town, with Luke Coulson, Sam Avery & James Waite all coming in to start for Will Dawes, Luke Skinner & Jason Pope.

Sam Pearson saw a shot blocked following some good work down the right by Weston, before Avery turned a Connor Roberts cross onto his own bar and behind for a Chesham corner. Coulson then saw a cross flash across the face of goal before Dodd had an attempt blocked 20 yards out.

Alfie Williams and Mitchell Weiss both saw attempts from the edge of the area pushed away by Max Harris in the Seagulls net, before Nathan Minhas dragged an attempt wide of the far post following a one-two with Weiss.

Coulson had a curling attempt blocked by a Chesham defender after profiting from a Gio Rasulo slip, before Matt Lench saw a half-volley 25 yards out held by Harris. Coulson then drove wide of the target from 25 yards, before Britton fired wide inside the area under pressure and Pearson saw a curling attempt from a similar distance pushed away low down by Goode.

Half-Time: Weston-super-Mare AFC 0 – 0 Chesham United

The Seagulls started the second half strongly, Britton seeing a 25-yard effort tipped over by Goode following a good knock-down by Callum Wood. Skipper Emlyn Lewis headed over a deep Coulson corner, before Waite drove straight at Goode after finding a pocket of space.

Roberts drove wide of Harris’ far post for Chesham from 25 yards, before Pearson poked over the top on the slide down the other end when stretching to reach a Coulson through ball. Britton then also had a shot tipped wide at the front post by Goode after breaking into the area from a loose ball.

The Seagulls were to get the decisive goal when substitute Luke Skinner beat his man down the left and raced into the area, managing to outmuscle Connor Stevens to reach the byline, eventually being tripped by Omar Rowe as he looked to get a cross in. With the referee pointing to the spot, Britton stepped up and sent Goode the wrong way to grab his eighth goal of the campaign.

With ten minutes added on, the Weston rearguard held firm to keep The Generals at arm’s length and ensure they picked up a seventh consecutive league win.

The Seagulls now take a break from league action as we head to Poole Town next Saturday, 27th September in the Emirates FA Cup Third Qualifying Round.
