Weston go 14 games unbeaten as they held Boreham Wood to a 0 – 0 stalemate at the Optima Stadium.

It was an uneventful start to the game for both sides. The first chance fell to Boreham Wood’s Abdulmalik who opened up his body to fire a deflected shot straight into the grasp of Max Harris in goal.

Sam Pearson was given his first start this afternoon after joining the Seagulls earlier this week and in the 20th minute, he found himself just whiskers away from marking his debut with a delightful goal.

After getting in behind of the Boreham Wood backline, he released a low shot. Despite the keeper’s panic, the effort would trickle just wide of the far post.

Boreham Wood went remarkably close to opening the scoring just moments after when Max Harris was forced into making a point blank save to keep the game level.

There were huge shouts for handball on the 40th minute mark when a Luke Coulson cross appeared to have struck the hand of a defending player, with the referee signalling for a corner and play resumed.

Weston would start to settle into the game in the last 10 minutes of the half, obtaining much more possession and swaying the ball from side to side nicely. Despite this, the game was level at the break.

HALF-TIME: Weston-super-Mare 0 – 0 Boreham Wood

There was more of a tempo to the game at the start of the second half, with Weston creating the first chance. A long ball hoofed up to Sam Pearson was cleverly nodded down into the path of Reuben Reid, the striker disappointed to see his half volley land wide of the post.

Max Harris somehow made a heroic save to keep the game level. Whelan looped in a lethal free kick, Harris diving to his left to deny Boreham Wood’s playmaker.

After making some changes, Weston seemed to be coming back out of their shell and were soon unlucky not to be ahead.

Billy Kirkman dinked in an appetising cross aiming for McCootie,  the ball evading everyone as McCootie stretched to get on the end of it.

Arguably the best chance of the entire game fell at the feet of Boreham Wood’s Whelan who put the ball agonisingly wide after being one on one with the keeper.

The game would end up fizzling out with both teams settling for a point.

For Weston, they move to 14 games unbeaten, a positive point and a clean sheet for the seagulls.

The team will now regroup and get ready for Tuesdays away clash with Salisbury.
