With the summer preparations nearly complete and the Optima Stadium ready for action, it’s time to look ahead to what promises to be a thrilling year for the women and girls representing the Seagulls.

First Team: Fired Up and Ready

The Women’s First Team has returned for pre-season with fresh energy and determination. After a solid 2024/25 campaign, the focus this year is on building consistency, pushing for promotion, and continuing to grow the women’s game in Weston.

Under the guidance of a dedicated coaching team and backed by fantastic local support, the squad is looking sharp in training and eager to make their mark in the South West Regional Women’s Football League.

Fans can expect an exciting blend of returning senior players and promising young talent breaking through — a testament to the strength of the club’s pathway from academy to first-team football.

We’ve had a strong pre-season, the players are hungry, and there’s a real sense of purpose this year. We’ve recruited incredibly well, adding strength and experience to the side. We’re building something special.

Girls Academy: Developing the Future

Behind every strong first team is a thriving academy — and at Weston-super-Mare AFC, our Girls Academy continues to go from strength to strength.

U12, U14, U16 & U18 Preparations

This summer saw our Girls Academy welcome new and returning players across all age groups, with trials held throughout April and June. Coaches were impressed by the talent on show, and each team is now well into preparations for their upcoming league campaigns in both the JPL and Bristol Girls League

Training has focused on technical skill, team cohesion, and tactical awareness, with an emphasis on personal development both on and off the pitch. From our U12s beginning their football journey, to our U18s readying themselves for senior football or academic pathways — every player is part of something bigger.

At the end of this month we are thrilled to welcome a special guest coach from the England pathway to work with our brilliant goal keepers, this will be the first of many exciting sessions to come.

International Tour

Plans are well underway to give our academy players the opportunity to test their skills against international opposition. This is an incredibly exciting addition to our provision. One in which we know will provide our players with unrivaled experiences both on and off the pitch.

Coaching Team

We have brought together a team of core coaches, each with different specialisms, from different backgrounds and areas of the game. This approach ensures that every player is supported technically, physically, and mentally — creating well-rounded athletes ready for the next level.

A Season of Opportunity

As the 2025/26 season unfolds, there’s so much to look forward to:

  • The Women’s First Team pushing for progress in the league.
  • The Girls Academy teams developing and competing with pride.
  • A club-wide focus on growth, community, and opportunity.

We encourage supporters to come down to the Optima Stadium and cheer on our Women’s team — your backing makes all the difference.
