Three changes were made to the side that started the win over Dagenham & Redbridge, with Callum Wood, Jake Hicks & James Waite all coming into the starting XI for Luke Coulson, Will Dawes & Luke Skinner.
Britton went close inside the opening few minutes when he took a loose ball down on his chest 25 yards out and struck a volley narrowly past the post.
The Seagulls were to race into an early lead eight minutes into the game when Jacob Jagger Cane worked the ball out of his feet 25 yards out and laid a pass off to Waite. The forward struck a low effort first-time, the ball sneaking inside the post of visiting goalkeeper Nathan Harness for Waite’s first goal of the league campaign.
Waite saw an effort blocked from the edge of the area, before Hicks fired over from 18 yards when a free-kick dropped at his feet.
The advantage was to be doubled through an excellent counter-attack. Weston dealt with a cross down their end before driving up the pitch through Dan Martin. He cutely found Dodd in midfield, whose attempted pass through to Waite was cut out., The No.8 quickly recovered possession and found Michael Smith, who slotted Waite in down the right. Driving into acres of space, the No.10 delivered an excellent low cross for Britton just a few yards out who had the simple task of tapping past Harness for his fourth goal of the campaign.
Hicks then saw an attempt deflect wide of the post after cutting onto his left foot as the hosts looked to search for more goals.
Half-Time: Weston-super-Mare AFC 2 – 0 Maidstone United
Weston grabbed a third goal not long after the interval, Emlyn Lewis winning the ball inside Weston’s own half. Half-time substitute Dawes took over and fed an excellent ball through for Britton, who took the ball down on his chest just inside the centre circle and raced past last man TJ Bramble. With just the keeper to beat, he calmly rounded Harness and slotted in on his left foot for a second goal of the game.
Britton went searching for more goals, and he came close when his shot on the turn 18 yards out was held low down by Harness. He had another opportunity from Max Harris’ long kick forward, when he fired inches wide across goal when latching onto his own flick-on. Skinner, also on as a half-time substitute, then hit a half-volley into the ground and wide from inside the area after a loose ball dropped to his feet.
Skinner saw a shit pushed away by Harness when cutting inside onto his left foot, before Coulson narrowly had an attempt blocked inside the box during added-on time.
We now visit Enfield Town for another tough test against Gavin McPherson’s side, as we look to make it six wins in a row.
