Smith has vast experience in higher levels of the game and on the international stage, featuring for Hearts in Bristol Rovers, Peterborough United, Hearts in Scotland and Yeovil.
He has also gained 19 caps at senior level for Northern Ireland, which included a goal against Germany back in 2019.
Smith has part of the Hearts side that won the Scottish Championship in 2020, and he also came runner-up in the Scottish Cup three times (2019, 2020, 2022). He was also a part of the Yeovil Town side that won the National League South in 2024.
Michael featured for the Seagulls as ‘Trialist C’ on Tuesday night against Newport County, wearing the No.2 shirt as he played the first 45 minutes.
On signing Smith, Manager Scott Bartlett said:
Michael has been a target for a long time.
“He has over 450 league games and 19 full international caps.
“He is an excellent footballer, he can play in a number of positions for us and his experience and versatility will be important for us”.
Upon putting pen to paper with Weston, Michael said:
“I’m delighted to be here and I can’t wait to get going.
“I’m looking forward to helping the team this season”.
