Club President Dennis Usher has been involved with the club since 1979, and continues to be a part of the furniture at Weston-super-Mare AFC.

On the unveiling and his time at the club, Dennis said:

I would like to start by saying a big thank you to you all, for your very kind messages and words through Facebook. Weston Football Club holds a very special place in my heart and I would like to share with you how we got to where we are today.

“My Father was involved with the club in the late 50s, when we were in Langford Road. With a brick manufacturer near the grounds, the pitch was made up of bricks and grass. I used to run my caravan rallies around the pitch for a couple of years. That’s something that our Groundsman would certainly disapprove of now!

“The club then moved to Woodspring Park, by McDonalds roundabout. During the build, a bus full of councilors turned up and I got a telling off for speaking with them; but thankfully the club passed inspection and was given the go ahead.

“With running my own business in the building industry, massive companies were going bust. At that time, Paul was teaching junior football and I couldn’t do two jobs. So, we both decided to purchase the land at Westlands for a 60-year lease. Thanks to Paul’s passion and enthusiasm it has become what it is now. A club to be proud of. We have an amazing ground and wonderful 3G area for all our great footballers to train and play.

“Let’s move forward…we now have Oli, Ed and the Board. They are all doing a fantastic job with the support of our wonderful staff and the club is growing all the time.

“Thank you again to each and every one of you for giving me such a wonderful and memorable life”.

It is the club’s pleasure to have named the stand after Dennis, and we thank him for his amazing year’s of service.
