The pre-season games are coming thick and fast, with this game coming just 72 hours or so after Tuesday night’s friendly with Newport County. The Seagulls put in a good performance against their League Two opponents and were extremely unfortunate to lose by a late goal against the Welsh side.
In Portishead’s last pre-season game they won by seven goals to one at Western Premier League side Shirehampton, continuing their knack of being prolific goalscorers.
The Posset have risen splendidly up through the leagues in the last two seasons. Since taking over as manager in the summer of 2023, manager Kye Mountford has led his side to two successive championships, climbing from Western League Division One all the way up to Southern League Division One, with his rampant side scoring well over 100 goals in each of those two seasons.
There are a number of ex-Weston players now plying their trade for Portishead, namely long-serving goalkeeper and one-time assistant caretaker-manager Luke Purnell, plus the attacking trio of Tom Llewellyn, Jay Murray and Lucas Vowles.
With both sides so capable of finding the back of the net, it should prove to be an exciting encounter for the Friday night match. With Portishead’s attendances growing all the time, and with the short journey time for Weston fans, there should be a large crowd to witness the game under the lights at Bristol Road.
