Walking Football

At Weston-super-Mare AFC Walking Football we run several weekly fun sessions for players of all levels and abilities.

Whilst the sessions are primarily aimed at those who want some fun and exercise, if you are looking for something more competitive, we also run several teams for both men and women that compete regionally and nationally.

Several players from Weston have gone on to represent England at various age groups so there are fantastic opportunities.

Our Sessions

Monday: 8:00pm to 9:00pm - Mens and womens session
Tuesday 10:00am to 11:00am – Mixed session
Friday: 10:00am to 11:00am – Mens session

All sessions take place on The Optima Stadium 3G

The first session is free to give you the chance to try it out, thereafter just £5 per session.

New players are always welcome, so if you want to come along to a session and give it a try or would like further information, please contact us at walking@wsmafc.co.uk

"Walking Football isn't just a game - it's laughter, teamwork, and the joy of playing with friends whilst improving my mental and physical health and fitness. Every pass, every goal, and every moment on the pitch reminds us that football is for everyone, whatever pace it is played at!"

Ian Granger, Weston-super-Mare AFC Walking Football Player

About Walking Football

Walking Football is a growing sport introduced in 2011 and generally played by men over 50 and Women over 40 years of age. Since its inception it has grown massively, with over 700 clubs currently registered with the Walking Football Association. Walking Football is also played at International level, with England being the current World Nations Cup holders at Over 50s and Over 60s age groups.

As the name suggests, there is no running and it is non-contact. It is therefore ideal for those who once enjoyed playing the sport to again participate, and also those looking for an activity to improve their health and fitness. It is also a great way meet new people.

Studies have shown that Walking Football offers a multitude of health benefits to older people such as reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke while improving blood pressure. Positive changes in postural balance, blood pressure and resting heart rate, lowered cholesterol, improved blood sugar levels, bone density, and improving reactions, whilst slashing the odds of suffering from type 2 diabetes – all indicators of general good health.

Whilst the sport is generally aimed at those in older adulthood, we also have younger members who are using the sport to improve their general health and fitness, or are returning from injury or illness.
