Men's First Team Pre-Season Tue 15 July The Optima Stadium
Weston-super-Mare
Newport County
19:15

Both Weston and Newport were in friendly action on Saturday. The Seagulls took on Exeter City and were defeated by a strong League One outfit, while the League Two side played at Step 3 Worcester City and won by a goal to nil at Sixways Stadium.

For Weston’s game with Exeter, there was a bumper attendance of over 1,200. Another healthy crowd can be expected for the Newport game as Exiles fans have always travelled in large numbers to BS24, as evidenced in recent friendlies and when the two clubs regularly faced each other in the Conference South in the 2000s.

The last pre-season fixture between Weston and Newport County took place exactly three years ago to the night. On July 15 2022, The Exiles, whose side included James Waite, won by four goals to nil against a Seagulls side who would go on to claim the Southern League Premier South title just nine months later.

County are likely to name a strong line-up against Weston as their League Two season starts as early as August 2nd, and they also have a Carabao Cup tie at Barnet on July 29th to contend with.

For Weston, it’s another opportunity to build up even more fitness and momentum ahead of the all-important National League South opener at Hornchurch on August 9.

ID Checks

We may ask to see ID at the turnstiles to ensure supporters have purchased the correct type of ticket. This is to ensure fairness for all fans.

If we believe a ticket has been purchased incorrectly or is being misused, we reserve the right to refuse entry and disable a matchday ticket or season ticket without refund.

Parking Information

We have a fair-sized car park at the stadium, with a limited amount of matchday parking available for Blue Badge holders. If a Blue Badge space is required, we recommend arriving as early as possible to secure a spot.

Due to visiting teams typically arriving in cars for pre-season fixtures, the Season Ticket Holders’ Car Park will not be available. However, season ticket holders can still park for free by showing their season ticket at the main car park entrance.

Once the stadium car park is full on matchday, all supporters are asked to park responsibly in the two nearby industrial estates, which are just a 5–10-minute walk from the Optima Stadium. Please do not park in the housing estate opposite the club, as this can cause issues for local residents.

Please note that we are only able to accommodate the official away team coach within the Optima Stadium
